Here is my theory of the Protocols: It was written while it was known that it could later be known to be fraudulent. Thus, a belief in the existence of a Jewish conspiracy was an active belief in the minds of many arose. Then the Protocols were exposed as fraudulent. The result was that the notion of a Jewish conspiracy was discredited in such a big way that no one could believe it henceforth.
