THE FREE TRADE & DISRUPTED SUPPLY CHAIN FIASCO IS MERCILESSLY TORN APART TODAY by host Mark Anderson and co-commentator / video engineer Ron Avery—who video simulcast this show, as usual, to www.livestream.com/ronavery/stopthepresses Contrary to what the mass media cartel says about vastly disrupted supply chains, with unloaded container ships by the dozen floating in the Pacific off the California Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles (ports that bring in some 40% of all U.S. imports), there is a way out of this mess in terms of consumers changing their holiday and general buying habits, amid the urgent need to change U.S. trade policy away from the global profiteering model of the world’s financial powers (and its vulnerable reliance on multi-sourcing of parts and component manufacturing) and toward relative national self-reliance. While “autarcky,” which is absolute national self sufficiency, may not be wholly realistic, U.S. manufacturing does need to be beefed up a lot so there would be far less of a need for mountains of imports in the first place. That would result in vastly shorter and inherently stronger supply chains. No country need import much, if anything, that it can make for itself, and it need export only those items it has in surplus according to what other nations need but cannot make or grow themselves (e.g., pineapples in Iceland). Homage is also paid to the late great GM executive and author Gus Stelzer, who deeply understood the trade dilemma. His insightful writings are still available online.
