Episode 10: Guest – Karin Manion, a real survivor of WW2. In 1945, Karin was a little German girl who experienced evacuation from Berlin, months of hardship while fleeing with her grandmother and pregnant mother – narrowly avoiding death – followed by hungry times in a refugee camp in Denmark.

Very good interview Monika, the lady Karin was truly a fighter, the truly embodiment of the German spirit of survival and final victory.

So sorry, the connection with our guest was not optimal, and in fact there are about 5 minutes that are completely garbled and cannot be understood at all, and that is from about minute 25 to the bottom of the hour. I apologize for not intervening sooner; I thought it was just at my receiving end that it was so bad. I should have fixed the problem as soon as it started.

Thank you Polo for your comment.
Here are the 4 books which Karin recommended, and which another listener asked about as he was unable to catch the titles and authors. Again, my apologies for the poor sound quality at times.
    1. Crimes and Mercies by James Bacque
    2. A Terrible Revenge: The Ethnic Cleansing of the East European Germans by Alfred-Maurice de Zayas
    3. Nemesis at Potsdam: The Expulsion of the Germans from the East by Alfred-M. de Zayas, same author as above
    4. Gruesome Harvest by Ralph Franklin Keeling. I believe that was written in 1947.
