We were talking tonight, April 10, 2023, about my odd story of getting a hitch-hike ride from Sammy Davis, Jr. in his mink=upholstered Rolls Royce, back in the 1970s, down Wilshire Blvd. to the front door of the Cocoanut Grove, which Sammy was running. Only after tonight’s show did I recall that there is actually a Donald Trump connection to the Cocoanut Grove and its huge Ambassador Hotel. The Grove and the Hotel closed their doors to the public in 1989. But in 1991 Donald Trump BOUGHT the whole thing! Including its huge acreage. DJT planned to build a 125-story skyscraper on the site! That would have been by far the tallest skyscraper in America (or the world). Trump would have been about 44 years old in 1991. Small world.
