Tonight, August 5, 2019, the birthday of my now eight-year-old, what is the status of homeschooling in the European nations? Until tonight I never looked into whether homeschooling is happening among our cousin Europeans in other European nations. And I’m shocked to find out something I didn’t know. It’s NOT! It’s illegal to homeschool your kids in Germany, for example. The phrase “your kids” becomes ironic in a country like that. It’s not much better in nations where homeschooling is somewhat legal. In what you would think of as very freedom-minded Switzerland there are only 200-500 homeschooling kids. In what one might expect to be independent-minded Sweden there are only 200 homeschooling families, and half of those 200 are doing their homeschooling against the law! The very, very good news is that there are an estimated 2.5 million kids homeschooling in America. That looks to be many times more than the entire rest of the European world combined. We’ll be talking about this shocking homeschooling story a lot in future Trump Phenomenon shows.
