Co-host: Paul Fromm | “Basta cosi!” So says the new populist anti-immigrant Prime Minister of Italy, Giuseppe Conti. “Enough!” “The people have spoken….we don’t want ANY more immigration from the Third World.” We listen to PM Conti uttering these words in Italian, interrupted by the loud cheers of the Italian Parliament on June 8, 2018. Then we hear the Belgian Minister for Migration saying in French: “Unless illegal immigration from the Third World is ended, there will be no European Union in five years.” Wow! And the Belgian minister, Theo Francken, isn’t even a right winger. The victory of Donald Trump common sense populism is at hand, signalled by statements like Francken’s: “Toutes les elections basculent vers la droite!” (All the elections are shifting to the right).
