The Orange Man strokes another fastball over the center field wall again today, October 23, 2023. President Trump spoke before roaring thousands today in Derry, New Hampshire. Derry (named by the Scots from Derry, Northern Ireland) has only 36,000 citizens. A good portion of them were at the Trump MAGA rally. One of Derry’s citizens was the great American poet, Robert Frost (1874-1963). Here’s an odd Kelso Scottish fact: Robert Frost is my 11th cousin. Frost and I are cousins through our shared great grandfather (Frost’s 10th and my 12th ggf) Henry Manning (1501-1583). Here’s another fascinating fact. One that Frost himself may not have been aware of, since he lived before the advent of astounding genealogical databases. Frost was also, through the same Henry Manning, a direct descendant of the sister of the Father of English Poetry, Geoffrey Chaucer. Katherine Chaucer was Geoffrey’s little sister by five years. That puts the poet Frost in the direct bloodline of her and Geoffrey’s father. Me too. But on a separate line, through my mother, I am the 17th great great grandson of Geoffrey Chaucer himself. And the 17th great great grandson of Geoffrey Chaucer’s wife, Phillipa De Roet, daughter of the Countess de Holland Avesnes. As wise folks say: “Demography is Destiny”.
