Homeschooling is our top topic on September 1, 2019. I’m starting my own second week of being a homeschooler, with my 8-year-old. All I can say is wow….homeschooling is great! And…something I didn’t know until about a month ago….homeschooling exists UNIQUELY in America. It’s wonderful and supported by law here. Here, in America, there are 2.5 million homeschooling kids at any time…and growing. But in the rest of the European world the story is BLEAK. Homeschooling is ILLEGAL in Germany, and France, and the Netherlands, and Sweden. It’s effectively illegal in White countries like Switzerland. There is a LITTLE bit of homeschooling in Canada, Britain, Australia and New Zealand (notice that they are all English-speaking Anglo-founded nations)….but just barely. So…to the point…we here in America ought to consider that we either use it or lose it when it comes to homeschooling. And we’re all that’s left of this FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT of parenthood. If the State, by law, forces you to house YOUR kids in THEIR schools from age 5 to 18 for most of their waking hours….then you haven’t got much freedom as a parent at all. And what other kind of freedom is worth beans? If I’m not in charge of my own kids….then I’m not in charge of anything, in my view. Also, as part of the GREAT argument for vigorous support of and/or participation in homeschooling is this: we homeschoolers provide a HUGE check on the runaway public school establishment. The look on the faces of the public school people when they found out that my son, their TOP student, much prefers home schooling to their offering, tells its own story.
