Here on Labor Day 2018, September 3, 2018, we look back to Ronald Reagan’s campaign kick-off speech on Labor Day 1980. With the Statue of Liberty across the Hudson directly behind him as he spoke candidate Reagan ended that speech as he coined the MAGA phrase that Donald Trump has carried to the White House. Candidate Reagan ended his speech exactly as Donald Trump does today: “And we will make America great again!”
